US Grade 6
This flexible class is designed to cover Texas and national standards for 6th grade. Week 1: Real Number System Converting fractions to decimals Week 2: Converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions Least Common Multiple (LCM) and Greatest Common Factor (GCF) Weeks 3 & 4: Equivalent Forms of Fractions, Decimals, and Percents Weeks 5 & 6: Compare and Order Rational Numbers Weeks 7: Operations with Fractions Week 8: Operations with Decimals Week 9: Calculating Percent Each week, the teacher will: - post content discussion questions that address student learning expectations. - post a weekly check in to have students evaluate their understanding using a system that ranges from "I don't understand" to "I got it! I can teach this!" (Scale of 0-5) - monitor and guide discussions. - present academic vocabulary and notes to students. - provide charts and printable manipulatives when needed. - model a variety of strategies for diverse learning styles of students. - provide activities and/or homework to practice new skills. - provide corrective and celebratory feedback for any submitted work. - pose questions on NearPod that build a sense of community. Sample Questions: What is favorite candy? What are your favorite hobbies? Do you have pets? If so, tell us about them! Each week, students should: - watch all video lessons. - engage in academic discussions in the classroom and on NearPod. - complete posted activities. *activities include: interactive games to practice skills, taking quizzes. - submit any homework assigned to the teacher. - message the teacher when more help is needed.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the first semester of 6th grade skills and be prepared for the second semester.
