Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
In this writing course, learners meet for eight lessons. Depending on the time of year, classes may meet 4X a week for two weeks or 2X a week for four weeks. Learners learn how to write a story starting with setting [time, place], characters, action, plot, develop their story by learning to write a one sentence up to a five-sentence story, learn to begin and end sentences correctly [punctuation], learn to add descriptive details to their sentences, and learn paragraph formation.

Learners learn and use writing vocabulary such as beginning, middle, ending, rising and falling action, climax, plot, conflict and understand how to incorporate these in their writing.

The ultimate goal of this course is to allow each learner to work on their own level, to build their own sentences, thoughts, paragraphs ending in a finished short story using their creativity and imagination, and having a completed short story based on whatever their interested is, whether from real experiences or imaginable. They will build on their sentences until they've created five sentences [minimal] and a great story.

Learners have the opportunity to work as a whole group as well as individually, sharing their thoughts, sentences and their final story in the sentence writing process as the learner gains confidence in presenting their ideas with other learners in the class,

This class is perfect for young learners interested in writing their own stories, learners who want to be better writers, as well as for ESL students learning to write in English, as each learner creates their story on their own level.

Come join us in "So You're a Writer: How to Write Your Very Own Story" as you focus on thinking and enjoying the process of generating ideas and writing your amazing short story.

Hello, I'm Paula Reid and happy to meet you and be able to teach your child/ren. I've been in the education field all my life it seems, from helping my classmates finish their lessons when I was in second grade to becoming a teacher and then a Principal when I grew up. I've also been a business owner for my years. But I love teaching! I love children of all ages and I love seeing learners become the best that they can be . . . and it happens through great parenting, education and phenomenal teaching.

I have a BA in Psychology, an MA in Education, Special Education and post-graduate work in School Administration. I've taught learners from the ages of 4 to seniors in urban, rural USA, Africa and South America, as well as ESL classes to children and young adults in China and a few other countries. I've been an online teacher for almost seven years now and have enjoyed every moment.

My every day goal is to help people, to learn something new each day and teach something to someone; additionally to help students love learning, become life-long learners and develop a healthy, global view of our world.

I've traveled extensively around the world several times, meeting people, learning different cultures, swimming with crocodiles in Australia, camping in the outback with kangaroo rats jumping across my sleeping bag, having hidden lemurs jump from trees onto my shoulders stealing my bananas and scaring me in Madagascar! climbing the Birunga Volcano in Rwanda to observe mountain gorilla families, coming face-to-face with a huge brown bear in Alaska, riding camelback in the UAE, sleeping in a yurt and riding a reindeer in Outer Mongolia and staring a rare and poisonous snake in the face in Costa Rica.

I love life, traveling, reading, music, photography, theater, adventure and I'll love teaching your child.
