Description
Class Experience
There is something very special about the legendary unicorn that fascinates us. Whether it’s their beauty, pure heart, or magical nature, stories and myths about unicorns are found throughout the centuries. In this one time class, we will take a look at some of the ‘facts’ about unicorns; where the belief in their existence may have come from, their place in stories and legends and meet their close cousin, the alicorn. Learners will use what they learn about the nature of a unicorn to invent...
Learners will: Gain an understanding of the basic background of unicorn mythology. Be able to use their knowledge to ‘create’ a unicorn. Be able to understand the basic elements of a short story Be able to plan/ write a story based on their unicorn.
Writing is my passion and as well as majoring in English at university, along with Theatre Arts, I've almost 20 years’ experience in teaching English in primary schools (4-11-year-olds). Over those years I have worked regularly with groups of children specifically on English writing skills. I’ve also had a keen interest in mythology since childhood and have studied both for leisure and also for use in the classroom, where we have explored myths and legends in many forms.
No homework is set for this class but learners may choose to write their story in their own time if they decide to use class writing time to plan, outline or partially write their story.
