So You Want to Write... a Fairytale.

Once Upon A Time learners looked at what makes a fairytale different from an ordinary story and learned how to write their own, using traditional elements - but putting their own twist on the story. And they all wrote happily ever after.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
In this class, learners will talk about what characteristics define a fairytale and how to incorporate traditional elements into their tale, but with a bit of a modern twist. Maybe the princess will rescue a prince stuck in a tower, or the dragon take over the kingdom and be the best ruler they ever had? Perhaps the Three Bears open a hotel or the Ice Queen sorts out the melting polar caps?
Learners will explore how to plan out a story and use character development and descriptive writing effectively.
Whether using known fairytale characters or making up their own, learners will produce a story that the Brothers Grimm would certainly have wanted in their collection!
Learning Goals
Learners will look at:
Planning techniques in creating a story
Descriptive techniques
How to incorporate the main elements of a traditional fairytale into their story and blend them with new ideas.
