Students will be able to (SWBAT) - recognize letters as unknown variables, and unknown variables are just numbers they need to figure out. - recognize that unknown variables can be used in a variety of ways in various types of math problems. - write multiplication and division correctly as used in algebraic expressions and equations. - combine like terms to simplify simple algebraic expressions. - substitute values for unknown variables to evaluate (calculate) possible outcomes for expressions

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Informal assessment will be done as a check for understanding. Students will be given an entry problem and and exit problem to solve using the technique taught and the ability to demonstrate that technique will indicate the student's level of understanding. No letter grade will be assigned, but if additional help is needed, I will reach out to the student individually.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
