Description
Class Experience
Students will learn how to identify their interests and strengths, how to effectively navigate a job search to find relevant listings, understand the descriptions and key terms within the job listings, and clear up common unknowns within a job application.
I have professional experience working with active duty military members who were assigned to a warrior transition unit to successfully transition from military to civilian careers. In many cases with both adults and teens, there's a false idea that people have a "common-sense knowledge" about applying for a job. As such, the basics are often missed. This class aims to fill in that gap by providing the most basic information about how to find a first job.
No homework will be assigned. The goal is that the learner feels empowered to take the next steps on their own after completing this class.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The class will use employment sites such as indeed.com to aid in learning. It can never be guaranteed that a search will always turn up with "appropriate" content, but in this case, there is a very low risk for inappropriate content to pop up.
