Class Experience

This class is specifically designed by a school principal to explore the teaching profession for high school students considering majoring in education. After 4 years of college, what is a principal looking for when hiring a teacher?

Topics that will be addressed include pros and cons of teaching, typical certification areas, salary and benefits included in the pay, how to prepare now as a high school student, and teacher evaluation. Students will also learn about expectations outside the classroom required for all teachers.

There will be time for questions and discussions. The goal of the class is to prepare students to be realistic about the profession so that they have the best chance of a happy, long-term career.

Learning Goals

Students will gain insight into the teaching career--from classroom responsibilities to financial considerations (salaries, benefits, etc). Students will also learn ways they can prepare now, as high school students, for a successful career in this rewarding profession. The goal of the class is to prepare students to be realistic about the profession so that they have the best chance of a happy, long-term career.
