This three-day course is ideal for students who are interested in all things French! Each day, students will learn and discuss 6-10 key elements of French culture, following the alphabet as our guide. Why is “fromage” (cheese) such a national treasure? How do French people spend their “vacances” (vacations)? Who were the French founders of “impressionisme” (impressionism) and “haute couture” (luxury fashion)? What is “éducation” (education) like for French students? The first day will start...
Students will gain a wider familiarity with 26 key elements of French culture.
I lived in France for over six and a half years, where I lived the “French cultural experience” on a daily basis. I earned my Bachelors of Arts with a French major, recently completed a Masters in Design in France, conducted fully in French, and have also worked as an ESL teacher in a French high school.
For the first class, students can come prepared with a few key words to add to a brainstorming of what they think of when they think of French culture. For the last class, students will be asked to share one fun fact that they have learned or researched on their own related to French culture. This should not require more than 10 to 15 minutes.
A short PDF of all of the words learned will be supplied at the end of the class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
