Class Experience
I remember my early high school English days. I learned how to organize and write an essay, but then I wasn't sure how to improve my work from there. It can be difficult for students to make the transition from good writing to great writing without the proper guidance. In this intermediate writing class, students will learn about the many ways they can improve their academic writing. We will discuss the benefits of a broad vocabulary, the interest that a unique introduction can generate,...
Students will -increase their academic writing skill. -learn how to write beyond the 5 paragraph essay. -increase their vocabulary. -learn to use transition words and phrases that aren't first, second, and last. -practice formatting an essay in APA and MLA. -become better essay writers!
I am a licensed 5-12 English teacher in the state of Minnesota. I worked for 4 years teaching English in a public school classroom. I just recently finished a master's degree in Educational Psychology through the University of Missouri.
There will not be homework assigned for this class, unless a parent requests homework.
Students should have an essay (old or new) that they can edit during class.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be assessed through discussion and the application of techniques. Students will not be given a letter grade unless a parent requests a grade.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There will not be anything scary, violent, or inappropriate in this class. Students will be asked to use Google Docs so the teacher can leave comments on their work.
We will use Google Docs.
