After every class, the teacher will supply each child with 20 words to practice reading. When practicing these words, the goal isn't for the children to memorize them, the goal is for them to practice blending phonetic letter sounds and digraphs together, and begin reading. Please don't force your child to practice. Creating a positive and supportive learning environment is the first step in ensuring a love for reading and learning! If you have any questions or need any tips to try and encourage your child to practice reading, please feel free to reach out to us! We are always here for you!

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
This 6-day course will introduce children to some of the other common digraphs that we see on a daily basis. On the first day, we will review reading words from Part 1 of this course series, which focused on long vowel digraphs. Following the quick review, we will begin working on sh, ch, and th. We find using pictures to match the words to, helps the children stay engaged and they get excited when they get them correct. You have to admit... everything is way more fun when there are pictures involved! We will learn the following digraphs: sh, ch, th, ng, qu, wh, c (when it makes a /s/ sound), ph, le, y, ey, oy, ar, or, er, ea, au, and aw. Since the Montessori curriculum follows the child, if the teacher finds that the class is learning the digraphs very fast, we may be able to move faster and cover more digraphs.

Prior Knowledge: Children should be able to read words with long vowel digraphs independently with no help. If you aren't quite sure if this class would be a good level for your child, please send me a message and we can discuss it. Ideally, your child would have taken Part 1 of this course series, if you're interested in that, here is the link: https://outschool.com/classes/so-many-crazy-reading-rules-digraph-reading-part-1-ktB3HQO9?sectionUid=4b926841-7791-4358-abe1-d5df70bb7d79#usF98VbXxs

Please note: All transfers to another time must be done at least 24 hours before. Please ensure that the class time(s) works with your schedule.
