So Many Crazy Reading Rules: Digraph Reading - Part 1 (Long Vowels)

This 6-day course will help children review short phonetic words and introduce some of the long vowel digraphs. On the first day, we will review reading short phonetic words to ensure that everyone is ready to go. Following the quick review, we will begin working on the "magic e" rule. This rule applies to words such as cape, kite, rope, and cute. We will read and match the words to their corresponding pictures. We find using pictures to match the words to, helps the children stay engaged and they get excited when they get them correct. You have to admit... everything is way more fun when there are pictures involved! We will learn the following digraphs: /a_e/, /i_e/, /o_e/, /u_e/, /ay/, /ee/, /ea/, /ie/, and /oa/. Since the Montessori curriculum follows the child, if the teacher finds that the class is learning the digraphs very fast, we may be able to move faster and cover more digraphs.

Prior Knowledge: Children should be able to read 3 and 4 letter phonetic word sentences/books fluently and independently with no help. If you aren't quite sure if this class would be a good level for your child, please send us a message and we can discuss it. We also have another class, where we practice the individual phonetic letter sounds and blending them together into short phonetic words. After that course, the child should be ready for this one.
