As a former elementary classroom teacher for 27 years, I am very passionate about teaching and enjoy sharing my excitement about learning! I take pleasure in teaching and I am patient working with the children. Each child is unique and no two learners are alike. One student may learn quicker than a classmate but I believe all children have the potential to learn. I have high expectations for all students and I do not limit their learning. I will encourage all my students to grow to his/her fullest potential! I love to teach children and get them excited about reading and their learning. I want to help my learners to have a strong foundation in reading so they will never experience the struggles I went through as a child, with no phonics instruction. I want to engage the learners in activities so they will enjoy learning. In the Ongoing class, students will learn 5 contractions per week. No two contractions will be used for the same words even though some are spelled the same way. The students will view teacher-created interactive slides and be provided with activity sheets for each class. The students will play games to match the contractions. They will trace and write the contractions. The students will read sentences with the contractions, and the students will participate in a comprehension activity using the correct contraction. Every student will have many opportunities to help give answers in class and be actively engaged in their learning. No prior knowledge is needed to enroll in this ongoing class. These class sessions do not build upon one another so, therefore, no prior class is needed to enroll at any time. Each student will be actively engaged in fun learning the contractions. The students will be provided with 3 sheets for each lesson and will be able to keep these in a 3-ring binder or folder for future review and reference. The following is the order we will do the lessons. NO tWO contractions will be made from the same words even though the contraction may be spelled the same way. This class STARTS over after we have completed the cycle listed below in case your child starts after the session first began. Hello Parents and Caregivers!
I am very excited to be with Outschool and I would like to tell you a little about myself. I am honored that you took the time to read this information and are considering entrusting your learner in my classes. I taught in public schools for 27 years and for the last 3 years I have been teaching students ESL online all over the world. I am a certified and licensed teacher with a BS in Elementary Education and a concentration in early childhood. I taught all subjects in elementary classes K-6 but for more years in kindergarten-2nd grades. After I received my Master's Degree in Library Science and Information Skills, for the last 18 years in public education, I taught all grade levels from Preschool- 5th-grade. The students were taught reading and information skills, Internet Safety, and all about books. I checked out hundreds of books weekly while I was the media specialist-librarian.
I am certified and hold a TESOL Certificate from an International known school. I started working with English as Second Language (ESL) students when the university I attended allowed me to travel over a thousand miles to McAllen, Texas to do three weeks of student teaching in a bilingual school setting. I was able to teach many afterschool and summer programs with ESL students in the public school setting.
I am a patient and kind teacher and I love to praise and congratulate the students on all their successes in class. I endeavor to establish an atmosphere in my classroom that provides all students the following: they feel loved, and safe, and are with a teacher who sincerely cares about their education and learning. I have high expectations for all students. I do not put a lid on their learning and I try to take them as far as I can in my classes. I have witnessed many of my 3 and 4-year-olds after they complete my Preschool-Kindergarten Prep class, excel in their reading.
I love to teach children and share my passion for learning with these precious students. In my classes, the students will be involved in fun and engaging activities I have created and prepared. Whatever age group of children I am teaching, I try to instill in students a love for learning by creating an environment that is exciting and fun!
I have created the following classes with your children in mind! For a beginner reader who knows most letters and sounds, I recommend taking my ongoing courses in the following order starting with the first class below the Preschool and Kindergarten Preparation Class, unless this is the class you are looking for: (Feel free to copy and paste the class information below or you can go directly to the class links).
