No background knowledge necessary! This class is meant for beginning snowboarders who are preparing to snowboard for the first time. Students will learn the basics about snowboarding equipment. They will also be instructed on having a strong stance. We will discuss safety rules and boarding a chairlift. In addition, students will practice visualizing J-turns and S-turns. There will be no homework for this class, but hopefully shortly after students will strap a snowboard under their feet...
I used to be a snowboard instructor at Park City Mountain Resort. I am very familiar with teaching a first-time lesson. While obviously the best way to learn how to snowboard is to go snowboard, there is a lot to understand about snowboarding before ever getting on a chairlift. In fact, as part of an official first time lesson at PCMR, we often spent the first hour talking, not snowboarding. This class is to help facilitate students who would like to learn to snowboard, but don't have access to on-mountain lessons. It is essentially what I would teach to my first time students before sliding down the snow for the first time.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
