What's included
1 live meeting
1 in-class hoursClass Experience
The agenda for the class will be structured as follows: 1.) Quick introductions 2.) Motivational Icebreaker (short video or quick discussion on a quote) 3.) We will play a review game including the fifth grade math standards. 4.) Students will self-assess and identify strengths and weaknesses 5.) A mini-lesson will be taught on a sixth grade skill 6.) Students will practice the skill with the teacher 7.) Students will complete an exit ticket in a Google Form I currently teach for K12 at a Cyber Academy. I love my job and have very high levels of student engagement. I like to emphasize content-specific vocabulary (word of the day). My students take notes where I encourage creativity, color, and interacting in a kinesthetic way (writing notes/color coding) to solidify the mind-muscle connection which aids in memory and retaining information. As a former bodybuilder and personal trainer I'm very interested in progress and people's success stories. Motivational videos, quotes, and study strategies are something I love to start class with along with gratitude exercises. Yes it's math...but they're real kids who are faced with choices and distractions daily. Self-discipline is not something all kids have be able to exhibit in sixth grade. I love to talk about how to study, how to take notes, keeping an agenda with due dates. So those are some additional life skills I implement naturally. Please click on the link below to see the fifth grade and sixth grade South Carolina math standards. These are the skills students should already know walking into sixth grade. I say, "should" but know that refreshers are often needed after a fun-filled summer. https://ed.sc.gov/instruction/standards-learning/mathematics/standards/scccr-standards-for-mathematics-final-print-on-one-side/
Learning Goals
Students will review math standards from fifth grade in the first 30 minutes. In the second part of the course students will get a mini-lesson on a sixth grade math standard.
For parents, this is a great opportunity to collect data on where your child has learning gaps to better prepare them for the coming year.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello future students and parents,
You want to know how much I love teaching? I work a full-time online teacher position and I still want to do more!
I believe a classroom should be about inspiration, motivation, learning life skills, and growing as a person. My goal is to influence kids to take interest in the learning process. With my six years of formal classroom experience, (often voted favorite sixth grade teacher hehe), I have the background of strategies to use along with what captures kids' attention to hook them to WANT TO LEARN!
Here are my class titles:
Morning Meeting: (30 min Mondays) Use motivational content, music, and friends to map out your week.
Character Analysis with our friends in Harry Potter: (TBD) Hone in on what it means to know a literary character by close reading and using text evidence to understand character motivation.
Fraction Frenzy: (30 min 2-3X per week) Small skill focus on fractions...games and activities to follow on that narrow focus.
Quick Creative Writing: (30 min) Students are encouraged to enter a relaxed space where they can settle down and IMAGINE! Each class will be a new prompt. A very small grammar focus will be included without it being a note-taking lecture.
Bullet Journal With Me: Two options (Weekly 30 min and/or Monthly 60 min) Learn how to set up a beautiful planner, doodle, and write fun pages like bucket lists
Before and After Math: Sign up the beginning of the month and we will work for two hours per week on math skills. Students will take an initial test to see their abilities and then retake the same test at the end of the month. Look at the transformation!!!!
Before and After Essay: Sign up in the beginning of the month and we will work for two hours per week on our writing. Students will write an essay before classes start. Personalized feedback will be given. At the end of the month...take a look at them side by side!
