Class Experience

I teach Snap Circuits multi-day camps and multi-week sessions and the students have been BEGGING for a challenge-only class. Any Snap kits are welcome! Students are welcome to use their manuals as a guide, but I will not be teaching from the book. If you are looking for a methods class, please see the various multi-day Snap Circuit classes I offer.

In this challenge course, students are expected to come to class with any and all Snap Circuit pieces ready to go by their computers. I will facilitate challenge after challenge. Some are timed, some are skill-builders, some focus on engineering strategies, but all of them are fun and immensely creative. Students will enjoy showing the teacher as well as their classmates what circuits worked, what did not, and why.

Expect to be challenged. Potential examples of Fun Friday projects are as follows:
- Build a circuit that uses the following four Snap pieces: ______, _______, _____, and ________
- Race to build the BIGGEST circuit. Yes, all pieces must work (lights should illuminate, noise boxes should make sounds, etc.)
- 3-min countdown to build a double-decker circuit
- 5-min race to construct the most complex circuit you can think of
- Criss-cross your pieces. They can't touch but everything must work.

Learning Goals

Pupils will discover trends, race against the clock, and engage in fun facts about Snap Circuits. They will learn electrical routes, crafty tricks, and efficiency.

Other Details

Supply List
Any Snap Circuit kit; one or more kits are needed for this class. Extended packs work, combining pieces from various kits is fine and encouraged. The more unique your circuit, the more you can show your skills to your challenge-seeking classmates!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a STEAM teacher for grades 1-5 at a public elementary school in CA. I absolutely love how the five elements of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) work together to inspire young learners and engage them in active learning. Building electric circuit experience is not only fun, it is perfect preparation for future grade levels. Pupils experience hands-on experimentation with trial and error, as well as support from the teacher and their peers.
