Grab your flashlight and build a bonfire because we're hunting for prepositions as we explore the Smokies by starlight. In this class, your child will enjoy a fun, nighttime mountain theme while learning all about prepositions. Using colorful slides I've created with enchanting clip-art, we will cover prepositions that refer to location, time, and direction. I will discuss prepositional phrases and how we construct them. Kids will make their own prepositional phrases, choose their own prepositions, and look for them in sentences. I also have some printable worksheets for students to use with class and for extra practice after class. I recommend that students take my nouns and pronouns class before this class or have a good understanding of nouns and pronouns. This class is perfect for the advanced first-grader, on-level second-grader, and the third-grader who needs a little review.
Learning Goals
Students will learn prepositions that refer to location, time, and direction and will learn how to construct a prepositional phrase.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&M University
Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.
As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.
I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.
I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
