Smile! Phonics Fun with long /i/, magic /e/
Learn and practice the long /i/, magic /e/ spelling through a song, games and a story about what makes us smile. Students will understand the difference between the long and short /i/ sound, and how magic /e/ can change the vowel sound.

Beginner Level
Students will read words with the target sound both with and without picture cues, as well as within the context of a story. All resources and activities are online, so students can clearly see the text and visuals. I adapt my teaching to meet the need of my learners, so each session is unique to that group. In this class students will… • Sing a warm-up song to introduce the topic and vocabulary. • Play a word-reading game with fun visuals and sound effects • Read a short story focusing on the target phonics skill. Use the whiteboard to write words with the target sound If your child has a small whiteboard, please have it ready (with a marker and eraser) for a spelling game. If you do not have a whiteboard, don't worry. We can play the game another way.
