Class Experience

Learners will become familiarized with elements of engineering and physics introduced in the course (types of matter, types of energy, types of force, including collision and gravity, properties of the triangles, circles, and spheres).
I have taught multiple engineering / beginning physics classes and camps for Outschool as well as the Stamford Museum and Nature Center (Stamford, CT) for ages pre-k through 4th grade.
Learners must complete at least one challenge per class. Ideally, each class meeting should take an hour or less (this has been my experience doing it live), however, the flex course allows more flexibility to work shorter/longer and try additional modifications.
Week 1: bowl, spoon, baking soda, contact lens solution and/or eye drops with boric acid, lotion, glue, food dye, alka seltzer tabs, water, film canister with cap. Week 2: rubber bands, tongue depressors, plastic spoon. Week 3: egg, recycled materials to build with, tape, bag of plastic straws. Week 4: Sunday times/lots of newspaper or other recycled paper, weight (actual weight or text book or rock), scissors, tape, ruler. Week 5: 2 large cup of water, 2 small paper clips, bowl of whole/2% milk, food coloring, dish soap, a raw egg, 1c of salt, spoon, tinfoil
Informal assessment based on quality of learners' comments/submissions to outschool classroom page. However, grades are available upon request/
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
