Class Experience

If your child loves to sing and make music they will love this class. We will sing, clap, tap, stomp, move, play instruments and it will be engaging and interactive. When doing the movement portion of the class, the student only needs the ability to stand up and move a chair aside. Movement will be standing movement only and will not be leaving that space.

We will also learn some basic terms about music. Each class will be the same format so that the learner knows what to expect, but each class will add a new concept. We will sing catchy songs and will learn musical terms through these interactive songs, movement, instruments and speech patterns. I am an enthusiastic and kind teacher who wants to help instil the joy of music in your child!

Week 1 - pitch and non-pitch
Week 2 - beat vs. Rhythm.
Week 3 - the music alphabet
Week 4 - loud and soft

To make the class even more fun and engaging, please have the following available at each class:

If you have rhythm instruments great but if you don’t the following will be just fine:

Rhythm sticks - wooden spoons or anything you can tap together
Shaker - fill a small container with rice, beans, beads or popcorn kernels
Drum - a pot of plastic container with a round bottom
Scarf - fashion scarf or dish towel that can wave through the air for movement
Stuffie - favourite stuffie

Hello prospective parents and guardians! My name is Mrs. Carol. I live in Canada.

I have my B.A. in music specifically Vocal, as well as ORFF (rhythmic based method of teaching music) training. I have been teaching music for 25+ years. I have created and taught an early years music program in Montessori schools. I have taught voice, piano, early childhood music in my own studio, as well as teaching for several summers at a symphony music camp teaching the ORFF method.

Studies have shown that engaging in music classes from a young age can make you smarter in reading and math! Early years music classes can set you up to learn an instrument, but even more than that it can set you up for a life long love and appreciation for music.

Through singing, simple instruments (don’t worry, your kitchen cupboard has all you need for class) and movement, your child will learn skills such as listening, focusing, taking turns and all the while having a whole lot of “hands-on” fun making music.

My classes will be engaging, inclusive and will aim to ignite the JOY of music-making. I will be using the curriculum Smarty Pants Music that I created after teaching young children for many years.

My husband, who is also musical, and I have been married for 34 years. We have a daughter and son-in-law and I am a proud “Mammie” to 2 exceptional, beautiful grandchildren, Amos and Anna.

I hope to see your child in my classes so that we can Ignite Joy, Get Smarter and Make Music together!
