In this one-time course, students will learn the acronymn "SMART" to learn how to communicate with others on the internet. S - STAY SAFE. Do not share personal information. M - DO NOT MEET. Do not meet anyone you are only friends with online. A - DO NOT ACCEPT. Do not accept messages or friend requests from people you do not know. R - NOT ALWAYS REAL. Not all information on the internet is real. People on the internet are strangers, and might not be telling the truth. T - ALWAYS TELL. If something happens that you do not like, tell an adult you trust. These five concepts will be used to explain to students how important it is to stay safe and aware online. This information is extremely helpful when introducing students to internet games and social sites. Class is 25 minutes long, and will use an engaging, problem-solving approach to ask students to brainstorm ways to keep safe. The importance of keeping information to yourself and letting parents know what is going on will be emphasized.
Learning Goals
Students will develop understanding of the necessity to keep privacy from strangers, but also be open with parents. Students will socialize with others and discuss the reasons why and ways they should keep safe.

I have been a librarian for over a decade. In this time, I have worked with students of all ages (college to elementary) on their reading, organization, and grammar skills. I have also been teaching English online for the last three years. I have been with VIPKid, an online ESL teaching program, for 3 years, and I have been with Magic Ears (another ESL teaching program) for the last year. In this time, I have learned to elicit total physical response while engaging young learners, teaching curriculum based on learning English as a second language. I have worked in both one-on-one and four-on-one virtual settings. I am comfortable with all ages and larger groups of children.
