Class Experience

In Smart Acting, you’ll learn how to turn your phone into the ultimate rehearsal tool, making solo practice easy and effective. Through interactive exercises, you’ll discover how to break down a scene, record and playback your lines, and make bold acting choices—all on your own. Whether you're preparing for a performance or just looking to improve, this class will give you the confidence to rehearse smarter, not harder!

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THIS COURSE
In this one-time class, we’ll focus on:

- Turning your phone into a rehearsal partner to practice solo scenes 
- Recording, analyzing, and adjusting your performance through playback 
- Building confidence in your ability to rehearse effectively on your own 
- Learning how to break down a scene and make strong, bold choices 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Students will need a phone with recording capabilities and a space to rehearse
- The course includes interactive exercises and solo practice time
- This is a one-time class, so you’ll walk away with the tools to keep practicing on your own

MY CREDENTIALS
- I am working on a Theatre Education Degree from Utah State University
- I have been acting onstage for over twenty years
- I have cast and directed various shows for ages 14 and up and have two years of experience coaching students ages 9 and up in private instruction
- I have three years of experience as an assistant director and teacher’s assistant in a high school theatre program

Learning Goals

Gain the skills to rehearse effectively on your own, without the need for a scene partner.
Learn how to use your phone as a tool for solo scene practice, allowing you to rehearse anytime, anywhere.

- Something you can write with
- A printed monologue to work on; a handout will be provided in the class page that will provide options for monologues you can print
 1 file available upon enrollment

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
We will use monologues from selected plays. These scenes will be carefully chosen to ensure they are age-appropriate and suitable for all participants.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have over 20 years of experience in acting and performance, and am currently pursuing a Theatre Education Degree at Utah State University. 

I have taught acting and theatre for over four years, working with students of all ages, from children to adults. My teaching experience includes semester-long courses, week-long intensives, and private lessons in both online and in-person formats. I have also directed and cast various shows for students aged 14 and up and spent three years working as an assistant director and teacher’s assistant in a high school theatre program.
