No background knowledge necessary other than a working understanding of the English Language. This class is an introduction for anyone that is looking to improve their conversational skills. Humans, in our most basic form, are pack animals. We live in groups both large and small all around the world. We interact with other people on a daily basis. We talk with friends and family members. We run into acquaintances at the grocery store or the local park. We connect with other people at school...
My entire professional and academic career has been focused on open and direct communication with others. In high school, I held several customer service positions. I also joined and eventually became the leader of a teen youth organization focused on giving presentations on important topics to high school and college-age students. In college, I was a triple major in International Business, Marketing, and Asian Studies. I also joined an organization known as Enactus (formerly SIFE) and became both the leader of their presentation team. Later, I became their president. I had to give several presentations and work in groups with other students every week due to my course work and affiliations and eventually went on to win regional and national presentation giving competitions. While in college, I continued to hold several customer service positions. One of which, "Overnight Host" for my college's Office of Admissions, I would later turn into a full-time career. Since graduation, I have had the opportunity to be a part of the admissions offices of institutions such as the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Delaware. Working for these great institutions was an honor and afforded me the opportunity to work directly with students, families, and other professionals from all around the world. The definition of an "expert" is often quantified as "someone who has dedicated more than 10,000 hours to their area of focus". Given my education and professional experience, I would consider myself an expert conversationalist and presentation giver.
