What's included
1 live meeting
25 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Learners will be given one challenge per letter of the alphabet to complete at home. These challenges are optional but can help children to practice mindfulness techniques and to create good habits. Learners will also be give a breathing technique for each letter of the alphabet for them to practice at home. We will practice these during the class but it is useful for learners to practice independently in a quiet environment.Class Experience
Big feelings, small feelings. We all have feelings, but what can we do about them? In this weekly class we will go through the alphabet practicing different self-regulation techniques and become aware of our feelings and emotions. What is mindfulness and why is it important? Mindfulness is the ability to be aware of your surroundings and our bodies. By practising mindfulness, we learn strategies to avoid becoming easily distracted, stressed and overwhelmed by situations. In each class learners will first be given an opportunity to talk about how they are feeling today and why, as well as listening to what others have to say. In each class we will cover 2/3 letters of the alphabet. With each letter we will learn a word associated with mindfulness. We will talk about what it means and how this can be implemented in our daily lives and how and why it helps us. Each letter of the alphabet will have a challenge to complete at home which is designed to help children to build goof mindful habits. Each letter will also have an associated breathing technique for learners to practice at home. Examples: "B is for Breathing" - We will bring our attention to our breathing and learn a range of breathing techniques that may help us in different situations. Challenge - Can you use a breathing technique every day this week? "T is for Thank You"- we will talk about why it is important to say thank you, who we can say thank you to and when we can say it. Challenge- Can you say "thank you" five times today? This class will be interactive as they try out the new techniques and strategies for themselves during the class. I will encourage all learners to participate in group discussion, but I appreciate that talking about emotions can be difficult for some, and therefore will not push any individual to share if they are uncomfortable doing so. I hope to see you and your learners in class very soon!
