Over the duration of our Vocal Performance 4-week class, teens will learn and apply vocal technique skills such as resonance, vocal placement, and sustaining. Each week, we will focus on a new area of vocal expertise through games, challenges, and, of course, group and solo vocal performance. We'll also cover basic music theory as students work with sheet music, reading notes, rhythm, and understanding harmonies and group dynamics. Students will do vocal warmups and exercises as a group...
Students will deepen their understanding of breath control, resonance, proper vocal technique, and performance skills. They will learn basic music theory and begin to read music. They will have the opportunity to film and email us their vocal performance so they can be included in our monthly vocal recital with the rest of their class.
Our vocal instructors are professional vocalists & performers in theatre & film, in addition to maintaining private music studios: Calli McRae is an actor, singer, voiceover artist, and voice teacher who connects to the human experience in a fresh and interesting way. As a performer, Calli appeared in the award-winning Off Broadway production Pip’s Island. She toured nationally in the live production of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and has performed in several new works of musical theater in NYC. As a teacher, Calli creates a safe space where students can freely learn, play, and imagine. She implements basic vocal technique and guides her students to approach every song with a focus on authentic storytelling and emotional expression. As a singer and voice teacher, Calli is proficient in the musical styles of pop, rock, folk, and traditional and contemporary musical theatre. Noelle E. Gast received a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Asbury University. Her musical interests are very broad and encompass the history and performance of everything from Opera to Musical Theatre to Jazz, Blues, and Rock and Roll. Combining music with teaching is her earthly passion, and she is honored to be teaching/directing a variety of music classes, private lessons, and shows with several performing arts studios.
We suggest students practice their vocal exercises or performance pieces between classes for app. 5-10 minutes per day.
In this dynamic and engaging course, students should be in a space where they can move freely and sing loudly as needed. Students also may find it helpful to have a water bottle close by! They will need access to a printer to print any worksheets or sheet music that our instructors provide them for their class which we will post in the classroom and email to you.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be given the opportunity to participate in our monthly recital. At the completion of their first 4 week class they will have the opportunity to continue in another 4-week session, or to transfer into one of our private vocal sessions. They also have the opportunity to participate in our other performance classes focusing on musical theatre and acting.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
