Class Experience

Small group tutoring is a fantastic way to work on reading skills with friends! This class is like a blend of private tutoring (where the content is driven by the needs of the learner) and a class (where group activities like games can make it fun). I will present lessons on new concepts, then give learners a chance to apply what they are learning by taking turns answering questions and reading words/sentences/passages.

Class content will be adapted to fit the needs of the learners and will include skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, morphology, and fluency work. An example class might look like this:

1. Warm up with phonemic awareness exercises
2. Review previously learned concepts
3. Learn a new phonics pattern or morpheme
4. Practice reading the new pattern or morpheme
5. Dictation (spelling)
6. Game or fluency work

This course is ideal for learners who have completed my Orton-Gilllingham level 2 class, or for learners who have a working knowledge of all letter sounds, digraphs, blends, open and closed syllables in multisyllabic words, and most long vowels. For example, if your child can read these words, he or she is ready for this course:
bonus
program
treat
stampede
coastline

If you have any questions about whether this level is right for your child, please send me a message. Upon enrollment, you will receive a link to sign up for an optional assessment. This assessment will help me plan instruction for your child's specific needs.

A homework assignment will be provided to complete between sessions. It is very important that the homework is completed each week and checked by a parent and/or submitted to the teacher.

Thank you for your interest. Please let me know if you have any questions!
