Class Experience

Looking to support your child's literacy development? Join us for a semester of ongoing classes for your kindergarten reader!

In this supportive, encouraging and interactive small group tutoring session, led by a UVA-certified reading specialist, students will work to improve their fluency, spelling, reading comprehension and writing skills.

Some topics covered in Semester 1:
*Phonological Awareness: Rhyme, Syllable Blending, Concept of Word
*Reading Comprehension: Retelling and Ask and Answer Questions
*Spelling: High frequency word work and blending sound work

Please note: This class is best suited for students reading at a Kindergarten level (Levels C, D or E or DRA level 3-8 or Lexile levels 40-310).

If you are unsure of your child's reading level, they are still welcome to join! Please send me a message before the first class and I would be happy to chat. Or, I offer Reading Level Quick assessments that will inform you of your child's level: https://bit.ly/3xbvExW

Each week's topics/lessons will be learner-directed and based on student need. For each session, students should come prepared with paper, pencil, whiteboard and whiteboard marker.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Welcome!
I am passionate about instilling a love of reading in children through sharing engaging, high interest texts. The classes I teach are literacy based, and I also offer reading assessments to help parents have a better understanding of their child's reading level and strategies to support them.
I have ten years teaching experience at the elementary level and my Masters in Reading Education from UVA and am certified to teach readers from K-12. I ran the CETA (Changing Education through the Arts) program by the Kennedy Center, at my school and find great value in arts integration.
I believe children should feel that they are valued members of a class in order to do their best learning. Classes should be engaging, interactive and social, especially in a virtual format.
I have two little guys at home and we love to bake, go on nature walks, and we just learned about Geocaching! Oh, and I'm a Penn Stater at heart- We Are!
