In this beginning reading class students will gain a strong foundation in reading skills through the Orton Gillingham (OG) approach. What is the Orton Gillingham approach? OG emphasizes a structured and multi-sensory approach to teach reading skills. Multi-sensory is when we engage more than one sense at a time. Students will be immersed through seeing, saying, feeling and hearing to enhance their engagement in learning. I teach through google slides, whiteboards, worksheets and games. I always pause for questions to guide students along.

Lessons will begin with phonemic awareness exercises, review of previous learned skills, blending, letter formation and/or spelling. The second session of the week will include a review of previous learned skills and red word practice along with a short reading activity. IMSE materials used for course with permission and other materials I create.

*Some red words are repeated- the first time is for the student to learn to read, the second time is for them to know how to spell it.*
