Small Group Learn to Read With Phonics Part 1

This course adopts a structured phonics-based methodology, guiding students to embark on their reading journey starting with a review of letter sounds.

For the initial five weeks, our emphasis will be on mastering short-vowel sounds within three-letter consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words. To reinforce these focus skills, we will engage in online games, and delve into original decodable poems and stories.

While a review of letter sounds is part of the curriculum, it is expected that students come with a foundational understanding of these sounds, as the majority of our class time will be dedicated to reading words.

To support progress, students are encouraged to dedicate a few minutes daily to practice at home.

Week 1: Introduction to reading 3-letter words with the Short a sound, examples include "mat", "cat", and "Sam".

Week 2: Expanding to 3-letter words featuring the Short a and Short o sounds, such as "bat" and "got".

Week 3: Progressing to 3-letter words incorporating the Short a, Short o, and Short i sounds, with examples like "fin", "job", and "hat".

Week 4: Advancing to 3-letter words that use the Short a, Short o, Short i, and Short u sounds, including "bug", "van", "mop", and "kit".

Week 5: Mastering 3-letter words with all five short vowel sounds (Short a, o, i, u, e), including "win", "zap", "bet", "run", and "yet" and concluding with the reading of short decodable books.

Along with learning to read 3-letter words with short-vowel sounds, students will practice reading high-frequency words such as was, the, and put.
