What could possibly be better than a warm buttered toast and spending time with your favorite people? Reading about a pig whole loves these things, of course! But what happens when buttered toast isn't enough and our lovable pig-next-door, Mercy Watson, begins to crave the neighbor's sugar cookies? Join me on this two-week adventure and let's find out together. Here's what our time together will look like: Week 1: Day 1 * (mins 1-5) Introduction to class and the story. Explain guided reading and how each person will be taking turns to read. * (mins 5-20) Students take turns reading chapters one (1) and two (2) aloud. * (mins 20-25) Together we will discuss the five major story elements from our reading. At-home read chapter three (3). Week 1: Day 2 * (mins 1-5) Review at home chapter and go over homework (comprehension check). * (mins 5-20) Students take turns reading chapters four (4) and five (5) aloud. * (mins 20-25) Together we will discuss the five major story elements from our reading. At-home read chapter six (6) and seven (7). Week 2: Day 1 * (mins 1-5) Review at home chapter and go over homework (comprehension check). * (mins 5-20) Students take turns reading chapters eight (8) and nine (9) aloud. * (mins 20-25) Together we will discuss the five major story elements from our reading. At-home read chapter ten (10). Week 2: Day 2 * (mins 1-5) Review at home chapter and go over homework (comprehension check). * (mins 5-20) Students take turns reading chapters 11 and 12 aloud. * (mins 20-25) Together we will discuss the five major story elements from our reading. * If extra time allows for it we will play a Kahoot game to finish out the class. . *Please note that the amount we will read in class is dependent upon each student's reading ability. There are roughly five (5) pages per chapter and some have pictures splitting the page. If a chapter is not completed in class, it can be done at home as homework. The goal is not to rush through the pages but instead to build confident readers using a fun story.
Learning Goals
* Create confident readers.
* Encourage independent reading.
* Familiarize early readers with the five elements of a story.

Parental Guidance
Students will need to read one chapter between each class in order to finish the book in two weeks. It is okay for you to read to your child between classes or let them listen to the audiobook as needed. However, as we are working on their reading skills and comprehension it is highly suggested that you allow them to read to you as often as possible.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from University of Tennessee - Knoxville
I am a certified TESOL/TEFL/EYL teacher, professional writer, beta reader, proofreader, editor, and homeschool mom. I have a love for the English language (I have the BA in English to prove it), the smell of new books, and transferring ideas from mind to paper. My goal is to promote a love of learning while offering a safe and fun environment. I truly have a passion for reading and writing and would love to share my knowledge and experience with your children. As a lifelong learner, I too am always striving for growth. After years of using the IEW curriculum, I decided I wanted to share what I had learned with others and became a registered instructor with IEW. (Link for verification: https://iew.com/events-classes/instructors/find-accredited-instructor/330449) I have also been a tutor (teacher) for a local classical co-op, studied through literature seminars, and attended practicums to enhance my own reading and writing knowledge.
