1-2 hours per week. To reinforce learning, students are encouraged to practice the flute for at least 10 minutes daily. Additionally, they will receive occasional music theory assignments, which typically take around 5-10 minutes to complete.Assessment
Learners are not formally assessed but their progress is monitored through their participation, performance and improvement over time. Parents can expect to receive two formal progress reports on their child's progress during week 5 and week 9.Class Experience

Beginner Level
In this small group flute class, learners aged 8-12 will learn the basics of flute playing over the course of ten weeks. Under the guidance of Miss Suzanne, a professional flutist, and licensed music teacher with over a decade of teaching experience, this course offers a comprehensive and structured introduction to playing the flute. Learners will receive a weekly 30-minute flute lesson from Miss Suzanne. Each lesson will focus on a specific aspect of flute playing and/or music theory, ensuring that your child becomes a capable player and musician. Learners will explore the following topics... -Week 1 - Embouchure & Tone Production: Learn the fundamentals of embouchure, the key to producing a beautiful flute sound. -Week 2 - Instrument Assembly & Care: Learn how to assemble the flute, clean it and prevent damage. -Week 3 - Hand Positioning & Reading Fingering Charts: Learn how to hold the flute and read fingering charts in method books. -Week 4 - First Notes: Learn the first three notes - D, C and B-flat -Weeks 5-10: Continue to build flute-playing skills with a focus on music theory and additional notes, progressing from D, C, and B-flat to E-Flat, F, G, A, A-Flat, and High B-Flat. Students will be able to play their B-flat major scale by the end of week 10. This course is designed for total beginners, so no prior flute experience is required. This class has a flexible age range and is ideal for learners who are interested in the flute or are preparing for school band or eventual private lessons.
Learning Goals
1. Learners will develop a consistent embouchure and rounded flute tone with correct articulation.
2. Learners will be able to assemble the flute and hold it without tension.
3. Learners will be able to clean and care for their flute, extending the instrument's life.
4. Learners will be able to read a flute fingering chart and demonstrate the correct fingering on their flute.
5. Learners will be able to read notes on the treble clef staff.
6. Learners will be able to count and perform rhythms in simple meters.
7. Students will be able to identify major key signatures and time signatures.
