Class Experience

Chinese pinyin helps both native and non-native Chinese speakers learn and understand the language, and also aids with reading and writing skills. It is essential for everyday life of anyone who is practicing Mandarin. As a native Mandarin speaker, I will help you speak Chinese with no accents!

What makes this class stand out?
My goal is to provide your child with the systematic phonic instruction for Mandarin. As an elementary English Language Arts teacher, I deeply know the importance of phonics in English reading instruction. During this course, I will make a comparison between English and Chinese. As a matter of fact, Chinese pinyin acts just like English phonics, which can help students read and type. As a native speaker, I will also help correct pronunciation. You will be able to read in Mandarin like a pro!

So, let’s talk about pinyin.
What is Chinese Pinyin?
Chinese Pinyin is the romanization of Chinese characters. It is a tool used to write the Chinese characters in the Latin alphabet. This aids both with reading Chinese and the pronunciation of it.
How to read Chinese Pinyin?
Firstly, it is important to be aware that although the letters used will be familiar to an English reader, it doesn’t mean they sound the same. Chinese Pinyin includes sounds in English that we may not exist in other languages, so the closest possible romanization has been made. This means that you need to learn how to correctly pronounce the sounds first in Chinese pinyin, then you can correctly pronounce them when reading characters.
What about tones?
The next thing you have to remember when reading Chinese pinyin is that it’s not just new sounds you have to learn. You also have to read which tone mark the character has.

By the end of this course, your child will be able to read articles with pinyin like a pro!
Lesson 1:Introduction of Pinyin, vowels (a, o), consonants(b,p.m.f)
Lesson 2:Vowels (i,e), consonants (d, t, n, l, g, k, h),
Lesson 3: Vowels (u, ü), consonants (j, q, x, z, c, s),
Lesson 4: Consonants (y, w, zh, ch, sh), tone 1
Lesson 5: Vowels (ai, an, au, ang), tone 2
Lesson 6:Vowels (ei, er, eng), tone 3
Lesson 7:Vowels (ou, ong, in, ie, iang, ing, iu, iong), tone 4
