In this one-time course, students will be introduced to the basics of soil science. We will cover topics such as how soil is created, different types of soil, soil as habitat, and why do we need it. This class may get a little messy, but sometimes science is messy! Students will learn by experiencing in this class. We will examine the different soil types by touching, observing, smelling, all of the these things will get learners motivated to ask questions about soil. While students are observing the soil types, I will show them the layers of the soil. We will end the class by conducting a soil saturation experiment! Students will be able to visualize the way the ground absorbs water with materials that they have brought to class.

Parents may want to be near in case students need help putting together their activity. However, this is a small activity and I take it step by step.

Pencil Paper towels Worksheet provided after registration 1 baking tray measuring cup spoon 1 cup of sand 1 cup of dirt 1/2 cup of pebbles or small stones 1 glass (small or medium sized - a glass works best, so that students can see what is happening inside) 1 cup of water

Hi! My name is Kristi and I am so happy you ventured over to my science learning lab!
My goal is for students to have fun, maybe get messy, and gain a love for science! My teaching style is interactive and hands-on as I try to bring science to life. My classes work well for the kinesthetic learner.
You will find that most of my classes have a hands-on component to complement the learning experience and my presentations are very visual.
I do my very best to keep prices lower than average as I understand how quickly classes add up for parents. Keeping the prices lower also helps parents as there are material lists for experiments and activities. However, almost every class that I have has a coupon! Please reach out if you need assistance.
When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my daughter outside, gardening, raising chicks, and learning new skills. My goal is to combine some of my hobbies while teaching.
I have been teaching environmental science to students in pre-k through 12th grade for over 12 years. I have taught in various settings including outdoors, in classrooms, and online. I currently run my own business developing and delivering science lessons and custom curriculums to students in school settings, early learning centers, scouts, libraries, and more!
