This is a discussion class where we learn new terms about sustainable fashion, students get to talk about it and afterwards they are given assignments. *This is an Introduction class into the 5 hour (5 week) course.* -We will explore slow fashion and learn about the environmental and aesthetic aspect of it. We will talk about how slow fashion impacts the environment as opposed to fast fashion and how to slowly start implementing slow fashion into our daily lives (at a low cost or no cost at all). -We will focus a lot on the clothes students already have and we will try to make their wardrobes interesting and fun by learning how to combine old and new fashion items. -Thrifting/buying vintage as a way to recycle clothes. Let’s reuse, recycle and combine! -Exploring trends/fashion items every week (both fast and slow fashion, focus is more on the slow fashion items). Comparing similar items. -Discussing about the importance of thoughtful vs. impulse buying and how mindless consumption harms both us and the environment. -Swapping clothes, revisiting old clothes and giving them a new life Examples of topics we will mention in this class: -Slow fashion vs. fast fashion -Sustainable/eco/green fashion -Ethical fashion -Thrifting/buying vintage clothing -Revisiting old pieces -Thoughtful vs. impulse purchases -Practical and stylish- build your own capsule wardrobe -Recycling and upcycling- buy, reuse, remake, repurpose
