Description
Class Experience
Learners will practice using meaning to help themselves read. In addition, they will use what they learn about sloths to celebrate this much maligned animal. Learners will follow directions to complete a slow-motion mindfulness activity (imitating the movement of a sloth) and will complete a guided drawing of a sloth.
As a former elementary classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and college children's literature instructor, I enjoy creating simple, but engaging materials for learners to help them practice literary skills and learn about their world.
With the guidance of an experienced reading teacher, learners will read approximately 200 words of mid-first grade level text with positive, appropriately differentiated instruction. The session is designed for 1-3 learners and no homework is assigned.
For the drawing activity, learners will need a pencil, eraser, paper, and their preferred coloring tools.
Learners will not receive a formal assessment. However, caregivers will be informed concerning their learner's level of engagement.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All materials have been created by the instructor.
