Through live and interactive video chat, learners will make each slime project from scratch, using the materials shown in the Learner Supply List section. Together, with like-minded friends, learners can explore the exhilaration of making slime and playing with it for hours and hours to come. This class requires no previous knowledge or abilities. Each step will be shown live, with the ability to ask questions, receive extra help, and talk about whatever! Together learners will discover how...
This class is taught in English.
Each week learners will learn: art safety in crafting, as well as shortcuts, out-of-the-box ideas, problem-solving skills, design and color concepts, self-expression, and chemical reactions (lightly) and caution. Community driven art has many benefits, they create teamwork, following instructions, improving fine motor skills, willingness to try new things, help with communication, patience, problem-solving skills, focus, concentration, boosts brainpower (cognitive development), improves mood, self-esteem, creativity, reduces anxiety, and much more.
I am a mom of eight, I have been teaching for over 20+ years in a multitude of subjects and mediums. I have a degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in behavior and neuroscience. Crafting is my therapeutic outlet. So much can be learned through creativity. Come spend time in a safe place where we relax, laugh, and enjoy making "Epic Crafts". This is one in a series of "Epic" explorations available throughout the year. Check out all the others!!! I can't wait to share my love of crafting with you... See you soon! Please see my profile for a full "about me"
The only homework for our class will be to gather your supplies each week. I will provide a supply list in the Learner Supply List section. It will have all 4 weeks of craft supplies listed w/pictures. The list provides a breakdown by week. Feel free to buy your supplies each week or for the full four weeks at one time. Most all of the supplies can be found at the ---Dollar Tree--- Other options for the same items can be made at the - -99 cent store, Dollar General, Walmart, and other stores (like Michaels, Target, and Hobby Lobby) that sell craft supplies. (many of these stores also have online options). NOTE: Since learners typically use a large amount of glue in this class, it might be wise to buy the BIG jug of glue (please make sure it has Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) in it, in order to work properly- i.e., like Elmers School Glue). Additionally, many of Amazon's "slime packs" include the remaining ingredients needed for our slimes. I have listed these ideas and links on the supply sheet for your convenience!
Note: This class will NOT be working specifically with BORAX... (However, I will help anyone that chooses to use this as their activator, including how to properly mix the solution for slime activation) The full list of supplies, with amounts (and pictures) as well as the approx. cost can be found in the section for Enrolled Learners once you sign up... Here is a base supply list to give you an idea of what a learner will need...(during the four weeks) Elmer's school glue (6 -5oz bottles), Activator: like liquid starch (like Sta-Flo), food coloring/paint, glitter (different colors), floam or small beads, hand lotion, shaving cream, model magic (or other soft clay), kinetic sand, instant snow packet, cooking oil, starbursts, gummy bears, marshmallows, and water.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Making something you enjoy is fun. I want everyone in the class to have an amazing experience. Remember... it can ALWAYS be fixed if you don't like it, and it is ALWAYS perfect if you do! This is about enjoyment and finding something that can constructively release your burdens. After class, I encourage you to make slime on your own, feel free...teach your friends and family, share what you know! Parents: If you have specific questions regarding your child and their crafting abilities, or classroom conduct you can message me or have a conference at any time.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
There will never be anything a parent is required to do, outside of helping their child acquire the needed supplies* for class and a way to attend the class. This class will NOT be working with BORAX (as a class) but if this is the activator you are familiar with you can use it for your slimes (I am here to help). IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARENTS: You might choose to be present, and help your child make slime, especially if you have a child new to slime. We use measurements, messy supplies, and complete two slimes within the hour. Learners new to slime can sometimes need assistance. WARNING: When working with slime near your computer/Laptop, please cover the keyboard with plastic wrap to avoid any accidental spillage. *In this class, however, we will be using a few chemicals - especially when it comes to activators...(contact lens solution and baking soda, liquid laundry detergent, lotion, peel-off face mask, shaving cream, and liquid starch). It is up to each family as to whether they prefer to use eye protection. (listed in the supply list), additionally, you might want to assist in the pouring of some of our chemicals. Please join us and help with the fun!
