In this summer camp that meets three times in a week, students age 11-14 will explore the science behind how and why we sleep, tips for getting better sleep, what happens when sleep goes wrong, and explore their nightly dreams.

Class experience

Students will be able to learn the three parts of the brain where sleep takes place as well as how the amygdala shapes dreams.
Students will be learn about sleep disorders and be able to discuss whether they or family members may experience these.
Students will learn 5 ways to improve their own sleep habits.
Science definitions such as frequency, amplitude, and neurons will be reviewed.
I have been the Coordinator for a hospital-based sleep disorders lab for the last 10 years and am a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. I have worked with thousands of patients over the years running sleep studies and improving sleep disorders. I currently teach to the public on how to improve sleep hygiene and spent 10 years prior to this teaching middle school science.
Homework Offered
Prior to the third class, students will be assigned to fill out a dream journal page as well as presenting a short fact/paragraph that they research about how other cultures view dreaming. We will be speaking about both of these during our final (third) class.
