Description
Class Experience
- Students will listen to and discuss folk tales and fairy tales from Ukrainian folklore. I will give a brief overview of Ukrainian folklore, and then we will read four stories from Ukrainian folklore. Tales included in this class are: The Golden Slipper The Old Dog The Fox and the Cat The Iron Wolf - I will open the class by asking students which folk tales and fairy tales they already know. I will use their answers to make connections to the Ukrainian folklore we will be discussing during...
Students will learn about and discuss Ukrainian folklore.
- I have taken several online courses about folklore and mythology. I am currently working on my MA in English. I also have an extensive collection of folklore storybooks and folklore theory books. I have taught and currently teach folklore, mythology, literature, poetry, and history classes. - As a teacher of folklore, I see how stories from different time periods and different places around the world connect us to one another. I help students see this interconnectedness between their lives and the lives of others through something as simple - but yet, profound - as folktales and fairy tales.
No mandatory homework will be assigned; however, I will offer suggestions for further reading and study.
No supplies are necessary for this class.
Student progress is assessed informally through class discussions and participation.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Some stories contain violent imagery (as many fairy tales do.)
