Skipping Into Second Grade: Subtracting!

In this two week course we will be learning how to subtract numbers using strategies based on place value. Class one will be a review of what place value is and how it helps us solve math problems. We will review place value (hundreds, tens, and ones), as well as how we use base ten blocks to help us subtract numbers. During class two, we will be putting what we learned during the first class to use. We will use base ten blocks to solve different 2 digit subtraction problems, without regrouping. During class three we will learn how to use base ten blocks to solve subtraction problems with regrouping. Class four will focus on practicing using base ten blocks to solve subtraction problems with and without regrouping. During this last class we will review everything we have learned during the previous classes. 
During class we will learn about the topic of the day through a slide presentation with examples embedded. Once the skill has been taught, students will participate in hands on practice through solving problems given to them by the teacher. Each student will solve the problem on their own board or paper, then we will solve it together as a class and discuss how we got our answer.
