Homework
1 hour per week. Optional homework is provided to support students with the work that we are completing during class. This includes resources such as graphic organizers, note taking tools, and self-reflection sheets. This homework will not be graded/evaluated but will be an incredibly helpful resource as your learner completes the course.

Class Experience

If you were to ask your child what studying looks like, what do you think they'd say?

If your child is like most students, they might be a little stumped. Students will typically say something like, "reading over notes" or "completing the study guide," but they are rarely able to articulate actionable, concrete steps associated with studying.

Throughout this four-week, flexible schedule course, students discover their unique learning style and practice using a variety of tools to identify what works for them individually. Students learn and develop their executive functioning skills through lessons and activities designed to build their toolkit and prepare them for success throughout their educational journey.

Every Monday, students have access to materials for the week which include the video lesson and PDF packet. The printable PDFs contain note taking guides, graphic organizers, supplementary activities, and other resources. I would recommend utilizing a binder for housing materials both for organizational purposes now and as a tool that students can return to in the future.

As a teacher, I encourage student learning through self-discovery. I strongly believe that students learn best when they are given hands-on opportunities to explore the world, draw conclusions, and have room to make mistakes. I want this course to be a safe place for students to reflect and improve upon their current learning strategies and feel empowered to take control of their educational experience.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to utilize the classroom page for discussion and further questions.

No experience or background knowledge is necessary for this course. Students should be ready to explore their learning style, and bring any materials from their school to practice these strategies in a real-world setting.

Learning Goals

Students will develop their own individualized study plan by identifying their learning style and discovering tools and resources that work for them.

Learning Needs
As a certified special education teacher, I have created this class to meet the unique needs of all learners. This class is specifically designed to support learners with executive functioning difficulties.
Supply List
Students will only need basic school supplies such as paper, pencils and highlighters. Students may also want to use notecards, colored pencils, stickers, and sticky notes. Depending on the student's current learning situation (homeschool, face-to-face, virtual), they may also want to have materials from school to use with this course. Lessons will include topics such as organizing your notes, ways to use graphic organizers, and time management. Students may find it helpful to work with materials from school instruction as it can help them apply what they are learning.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
