Neuro-Affirming and Empowering Learning "Sketchnoting, Organization, & Executive Function for the ADHD Brain" is a self-paced course designed to empower teens by helping them understand their unique neurological makeup. Unlike traditional approaches that rely heavily on generic "tips and tricks," this course provides a neuro-affirming experience, focusing on self-awareness and celebration Teens will delve into the fascinating workings of their ADHD brains, learning how their unique perspectives can be harnessed as strengths. By fostering a deep understanding of their own minds, the course aims to reduce overwhelm and build long-term strategies that are both practical and sustainable. Engaging Content with Fun Brain Breaks Understanding the need for high dopamine levels to process information effectively, this course incorporates fun brain breaks throughout. These breaks are essential for maintaining engagement and preventing burnout. The coursework includes plenty of doodling and creative exploration, making learning a dynamic and enjoyable experience. By integrating these elements, the course ensures that students remain motivated and can better retain and apply what they learn, all while enjoying the process. Structured Weekly Lessons for Lasting Impact Each week of the course is structured around multiple lessons that guide teens through a well-curated process of discovery. These lessons are designed to make the information meaningful and adaptable to their current situations and future endeavors. Through a combination of sketchnoting, organizational techniques, and executive function strategies, students will develop skills that they can customize to fit their personal needs. over 10 WeeksLesson 1:
Week 1: What is ADHD and Are There Different Types?
:Introduction to ADHD and its various types: Students will explore what ADHD is, debunk common myths, and learn about the different types of ADHD. This session includes interactive doodle boards, funny brain breaks, and sketchnoting activities to help students visualize key concepts.
Lesson 2:
Week 2: Systems-based Kids versus Procedures-based Kids
:Understanding the differences in ADHD coping styles: This week focuses on identifying whether a child is systems-based or procedures-based and what strategies work best for each. Students will engage in activities to discover their own learning style, participate in interactive sketchnoting, and enjoy humorous brain breaks.
Lesson 3:
Week 3: Timers, Mimers, and Crimers: Time Blindness and the Pomodoro Technique
:Managing time blindness and introducing the Pomodoro Technique: Students will learn about time blindness and how it affects those with ADHD. The Pomodoro Technique will be introduced as a practical tool. Interactive activities and sketchnoting will make the learning process engaging and fun.
Lesson 4:
Week 4: Emotional Volcanos and Hobbit-holes
:Exploring emotional dysregulation: This class delves into why emotional dysregulation can be both explosive and isolating. Through interactive discussions, sketchnoting, and funny brain breaks, students will gain a deeper understanding of their emotional landscapes and how they can drastically affect executive functioning capability.
