Hello students and parents! What better way to learn about Sketchoting than to take Sketchnotes about (and during) this class? The students will walk through taking notes during this class while learning about and incorporating Sketchnotes techniques. I will use lots of visual examples as inspiration and information. Students are encouraged to sketch, take notes, and ask questions. No artistic experience is needed in this class. The class outline is as follows: 1. What exactly is Sketchnoting? "Sketchnoting, also commonly referred to as visual note taking, is the creative and graphic process through which an individual can record their thoughts with the use of illustrations, symbols, structures, and texts." [Source: Wikipedia] We'll look at some examples of different types, styles, and purposes of Sketchnotes. 2. Techniques and elements used Titles, lettering, bullet points, containers, connectors, people, faces, color, etc. Students will practice drawing different elements to use in their Sketchnotes. 3. Incorporating Sketchnotes into your typical academic note-taking Ways to organize your notes, prioritize the information, distinguish key ideas, terms, and test questions. We will get this class' information on the page for students to use as a reference or practice. 4. Using Sketchnotes outside of class Create a memorable study guide, brainstorm new projects, summarize goals and plans, journal a fun memory. Students will suggest layouts and elements to use in an extracurricular project. 5. Troubleshooting i.e. "I'm not artistic." Great news! You don't have to be "artistic" or draw brilliantly to use Sketchnotes. I will field any Q & A the students may have. We will also use this opportunity to share any Sketchnotes the students are especially proud of and would like to share.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the purpose of Sketchnotes, the benefits of using them, and many of the visual elements often used.

External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Courtney and I am very passionate about all things arts and crafts! I have ten years of teaching experience (public school, religious education, tutoring, manager training, online ESL) I have been teaching online full-time for a year and a half and I absolutely love it.
While I was earning my Bachelor's Degree I took at least ten art classes (painting, mixed media, drawing, 2D design, ceramics, etc).
When I'm not teaching or doing arts and crafts I'm decorating cake/cookies or playing with my one-year-old daughter and our two small dogs.
I hope to see you in the classroom! :)
