Students will be encouraged to sketch daily and learn to view sketching as a way to replenish their creative bank account, relax, recharge and have fun.Assessment
Students will share their sketches during class, discuss sketchbook goals, and share ideas for future sketches!Class Experience
In this exciting ongoing club, students will learn to see the world as a source of endless inspiration as they develop their ability to sketch what they see! Each week students will choose topics to draw from prompts provided by the instructor. They will be encouraged to either draw along with the instructor or choose their own reference image to use. These prompts will include, drawing your backyard, household objects, your favorite pet, drawing a place you've traveled to, and drawing a place you'd like to visit to name just a few. The first four weeks of class will follow the schedule below (updated every four weeks): Week 1: Theme 1 - Drawing Nature: Students will follow along as we learn to sketch a basic landscape with a focus on trees and foliage Week 2: Theme 2 - Drawing your favorite Pet: Students will follow along as they learn to sketch their favorite pet. An image will be provided however students will be encouraged to use a personal photo of their pets. Week 3: Theme 3 - Drawing Household Objects: Students will follow along as they learn to sketch an object from their home. Any object will do. Week 4: Theme 4 - Drawing Nature, Pets, or Household Objects - Learner directed. On the fourth week of each section, learners will select the topic for illustration or suggest something new. The students will choose to sketch an environment, an animal, or an object of their choosing. They can follow along as the teacher walks through the key steps in sketching each, or those who feel comfortable and work along at their own pace. I have a high-energy teaching style that allows learners to ask questions and receive feedback on their sketches. During class, learners will be encouraged to share their progress. At the end of course, we will do a show-and-tell session where learners provide feedback to each other and discuss what they learned and what they would like to sketch in future classes. No experience is required. As an ongoing class students can jump in and join a class at any time, refine their skills, and start to fill up their sketchbooks!
Learning Goals
Students will develop confidence in sketching the natural world around them, and learn how to best utilize a sketchbook by seizing opportunities while traveling, during breaks at school, or during a mental health day.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, parents and learners of all ages! My name is MR. T (Thornton)! Welcome to my little corner of Outschool. Here I share my passion for all things art, illustration, and animation with your learners! I am super excited to have them join me for an artistic adventure!
I hold a BA degree in Digital Arts and Sciences from the University of Florida and consider myself a lifelong learner! I have worked as a freelance artist and illustrator for over 20 years creating caricatures, portraits, comic books, and character designs for clients of all ages!
I'll say this upfront, I don't really believe in talent. I believe in "cultivated aptitude". No one should be made to feel they either have natural artistic "talent" or not. We all have aptitudes, things we are naturally drawn to or interested in. The difference between success and failure is the work put into cultivating that aptitude. If your learner likes to draw, paint, or is fascinated by animation, now's the time to dive in! My classes give your learner the opportunity to cultivate their artistic side and refine basic skills that will help them embark on a lifelong journey of learning to bring their creative visions to life!
Since I could pick up a pencil I have loved to draw! I've spent my life refining my skills and sharing my gift with the world. I hope your learner will join me so we can have fun cultivating their passion for art together!
**Note: For all of my classes, please feel free to send a date/time request for a class you're interested in. I want your learner to have the best experience possible! We'll work together to ensure the date/time works for you!**
