Students will be given a different sketch prompt each week to base their artwork on. Different brainstorming techniques, critical thinking, and problem solving skills will be explored through these sketch prompts. Students are encouraged to "think outside of the box"! The class will begin with a conversation about the day's sketching prompt, followed by a brainstorming session. Students will learn various ways to brainstorm over the course of 4 weeks. After brainstorming, students will spend the rest of class working on their sketch (roughly 40-45 minutes). This class is taught via document camera as well, therefore students can observe the teacher as they create a sketch also! Students may use any media they prefer for their sketches. At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to share their sketch with the group. Sketch Prompts: Week 1: "A Pocket Full" Week 2: "Something Red" Week 3: "Handle with Care" Week 4: "Stop and Stare" Students may ask questions as needed. *No prior knowledge is required.
Learning Goals
Students will learn critical thinking and problem solving skills while creating an artwork. Students will explore the use of their imagination as they answer a series of sketching prompts.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello parents and students!
I love to use a variety of media to keep the creating process fun and exciting. Some of the media we will use are: pencils, markers, crayons, colored pencils, oil and chalk pastels, acrylic paint, watercolors, pen, and more!
I graduated in 2014 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BSED in Art Education and a Dance Minor in Choreography. I have experience teaching every grade level from Pre-K through 12th grade in both Kansas and Texas. Some of the courses I have taught are: Elementary Art, Drawing and Painting, Sculpture and Ceramics, and also Intro to Art. This is my 8th year teaching art in a public school setting.
Scaffolding the necessary skills for learning art such as problem-solving, collaborating, and self-reflecting are woven intricately into my teaching. When producing my own artwork, I often find inspiration in flowers/nature.
I also have two large Newfoundland dogs (Bruin & Orso) and love to take them for walks when I am not busy teaching. You might even see them say "Hello!" during a class or two! I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
"Creativity takes courage." -Henri Matisse.
