Class Experience

Students will learn the basics of skateboarding. The three main topics are how to ride, how to Ollie, and how to kickflip. The skills are progressive and do require out of class practice. Along side these topics, skateboarding savvy will be covered which includes things like safety, maintenance of gear, and skateboarding culture.

The class will start with a hook, which will be a short video showing the skill to be taught that day. Proper and adequate acquisition of the skill will be demonstrated by the teacher and explained in detail. Next students will practice the skill taught one at a time. During this time the teacher will coach the students. Lastly, students will be asked three short questions to check for understanding.

My teaching style relies heavily on positive reinforcement, but that is not in compromise of redirection or corrections.
Learning Goals

Parental Guidance
There are potential hazards to skateboarding and this course. Students must have open workout space (preferably smooth concrete). Students should not attend this class while skateboarding on the road or street. Proper footwear is advised, as well as a water bottle if needed. Adequate stretching is likewise advised. And the use of helmet and elbow, knee, and wrist pads are strongly encouraged. Students must have room to practice riding and later doing tricks on the skateboard. Students can attend class to learn about skateboarding and practice independently, yet class skateboarding demonstrations are preferred. Potential falling and hitting of shins are likely. If a serious injury does occur, parent contact will take place as soon as possible. Parents and students are responsible for their safety and any bodily harm. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, my name is Mr. Perez. I teach super entertaining, super engaging, but also super productive classes. I taught for seven years in public school and one year as a principal. I think that learning is a way of life, it should never be boring but also never sacrifice rigor and substance. I am a published author of fiction and poetry, and hate to be bored. In my class, I promise you’ll never be bored.
