Class Experience

US Grade 6
This semester long Grade Six math course is designed to help your child gain confidence in a wide variety of math topics.

Grade Six is a great time to review and reinforce concepts learned throughout the elementary years and to lay a foundation for future study in algebra, geometry, and probability. We will cover it all in this class!

We will learn the following topics:
--Introduction to Logic
--Number and Place Value
--Arithmetic with Whole Numbers, Fractions, and Decimals
--Angles, Perimeter, and Area
--Sequences
--Graphs and Presenting Data

We not just learn about these topics in the abstract, but will spend time applying them to real-world problems

Students have the option to complete homework assignments and three exams during the semester and submit them for grading and feedback. This regular, consistent practice is key in mastering mathematics!

This class supports the National Curriculum for Year 7, which is the equivalent to the sixth grade in the US, and is a great choice for homeschooled students who need a comprehensive math class.

In each class we will begin with a brief warm-up exercise before moving on to the topic of the day, which will be introduced through questions, conversation, and example problems. We will break up group work with the chance to work some problems independently. This lets everyone check their own understanding before we move on.

My teaching style is upbeat and engaging, while staying focused on the learner. The sclass is very collaborative and discussion based. Everyone can contribute! It's really all about the students and encouraging them to develop their own understanding by trying out new concepts and working with others. This is why I keep my class sizes small - so everyone has the opportunity to fully participate.

Students will be given homework assignments and the opportunity to take tests to assess learning. These can be submitted for grading and feedback.
