The learning goals for the 13-week virtual language arts class for 6th graders are designed to develop and enhance various language arts skills. Here are the overarching learning goals for the course:

Communication Skills: Develop effective communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Reading Comprehension: Enhance reading comprehension skills by employing strategies such as making predictions, visualizing, and summarizing.
Literary Analysis: Analyze literary works, including short stories and poetry, by examining elements such as plot, characterization, and theme.
Narrative Writing: Develop narrative writing skills by understanding the elements of a story, crafting engaging plots, and creating realistic characters.
Descriptive Writing: Enhance descriptive writing skills by using vivid language, sensory details, and effective use of imagery.
Persuasive Writing: Learn the art of persuasive writing by crafting well-structured arguments and utilizing persuasive techniques.
Grammar and Sentence Structure: Gain proficiency in identifying and using parts of speech correctly in sentences.
Vocabulary Development: Expand vocabulary by employing strategies such as using context clues, word roots, and prefixes/suffixes.
Research Skills: Develop essential research skills, including note-taking, paraphrasing, and citing sources.
