Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Jessica. I have been teaching on Outschool since November 2020. After taking a break from Outschool to get my Masters in Social Work and grow my family, I am excited to return for all the fun that teaching on Outschool offers! During this incarnation of my life on Outschool, I am very excited to be leading litereature and book study groups. I believe that building a strong community with our fellow learners is essential to our learning which is why I love teaching literature. There are natural opportunities to build community through sharing in discussions about the books we read! I am also a strong believer that learning with children should be quick and impactful. The mind body connection is strong. While virtual learning opportunities can be expansive, exciting, and engaging, sitting still in front of a computer for too long may also hinder learning for those students who need to wiggle. I aim to always keep my classes on the shorter side or provide plenty of opportunities for movement if it is a longer class!

I have a BSEd with a concentration in English, 18 undergraduate credits in Environmental Science, 12 grduate credits in Elementary Education with a focus on Environmental Education, and a Master's Degree in Social Work. I have led field trips and workshops, and directed summer camps for students in grades K-6; taught first and fourth grade in a brick and mortar setting; and worked in residential group homes and day schools with youth who have trauma and emotional disabilities. In my current in person life, I work at an intentional living community for youth who have experienced foster care, their immediate families, and 55+ adults who live in the community to support the families. There, I conduct case management, lead after school programs for youth, provide therapeutic intervention for families when needed, and support the 55+ through volunteer support groups and trauma informed care trainings. Additionally, I am a certified Holistic Health Counselor and I have been practicing yoga for more than 20 years.
