Siphonophores: Little Known Beauties of the Sea in Marine Biology Part 1

Siphonophore... wait, siphono-what??  In this one time class, we will take a virtual trip into the ocean and meet some of them. We will start by learning what a siphonophore is and a little bit about them in general. Then we will get our feet wet as we explore this beautiful and bizarre world of siphonophores. Many are surprised to know that they actually know of a siphonophore: the Portuguese Man-O-War. Using a combination of lectures, slides, photos, videos, questions, and other interactive activities we will learn about these fascinating animals. No prior knowledge or experience is necessary. 

We will be using the website www.nearpod.com for an interactive activity at the end of the class. No signup is necessary. The student will be provided a code before class which they can use to go directly to my classwork. We will also be viewing a couple of relevant videos via screensharing from Youtube. 

There will also be optional printouts to reinforce facts and vocabulary learned, including a crossword puzzle and search-a-word.
