Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this ongoing class, learners will practice multiplying one-digit by multi-digit numbers and will develop basic long-division skills by learning to divide multi-digit numbers by 1-digit divisors. Each week's lesson consists of two parts, the first with a focus on multiplication and the second with a focus on division. During the first half of class each week, learners will practice multiplying one-digit by multi-digit numbers. During the second half of class each week, learners will develop basic long-division skills by learning to divide two-, three-, and four-digit dividends by one-digit divisors. Each week, learners will focus on small groups of numbers to divide by using long division. This set-up will enable learners to receive targeted practice with each number to implement their multiplication and long-division skills. This is designed to be a small group class to foster strong interactions in class. This ongoing class has a 16-lesson rotating cycle to provide a thorough foundation for learners developing their multiplication and long division skills (with and without remainders). Once learners have completed a cycle, the concepts will remain the same; however, the problems in class will change to offer more practice if learners wish to continue practicing and developing this critical math skill. Learners are encouraged to join in class at any time throughout the cycle.

Upcoming Classes:
Week 1 (2/11): Multiplication and long division by 2s (without remainders)
Week 2 (2/18): Multiplication and long division by 3s (without remainders)
Week 3 (2/25): Multiplication and long division by 4s (without remainders)
Week 4 (3/4): Multiplication and long division by 5s (without remainders)
Week 5 (3/11): Multiplication and long division by 6s (without remainders)
Week 6 (3/18): Multiplication and long division by 7s (without remainders)
Week 7 (3/25): Multiplication and long division by 8s (without remainders)
Week 8 (4/1): Multiplication and long division by 9s (without remainders)
Week 9 (4/8): Multiplication and long division by 10s (without remainders)

Future Lessons:
Week 10: Multiplication and long division by 2s (with remainders)
Week 11: Multiplication and long division by 3s (with remainders)
Week 12: Multiplication and long division by 4s (with remainders)
Week 13: Multiplication and long division by 5s (with remainders)
Week 14: Multiplication and long division by 6s (with remainders)

Hello! My name is Ms. Sarah! I am very excited to meet you! I recently finished 8 years of college and graduated with my Doctorate degree in Audiology (diagnosing and treating hearing and balance disorders) in May 2020! I have been a teacher in many ways over the last 13 years. I am a 5th degree black belt in taekwondo and have been teaching taekwondo to students ages 4-18 over the last 14 years. I have also been a math tutor for more than 11 years, teaching students math concepts ranging from basic mathematics learned in K5 through high school algebra II, both face-to-face and virtually. Other math prep courses I have taught include several ACT standardized testing math prep courses. In the last couple of years I have added teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) virtually to international students ages 4-15. I have a strong passion for teaching, and I love helping students succeed and become more confident and independent. I enjoy taekwondo, traveling, reading, fishing, and spending time with my family. I can't wait to meet you, and I hope to see your learner in my classroom soon!!
