Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello lovely friends! I am so excited to meet you! I am an opera singer and performer, and also have taught voice and music lessons for more than 9 years, and I teach all ages. I hold a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from the acclaimed Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and a Bachelor's degree, also in Voice Performance, from the University of New Mexico. I have performed as a "party princess" for 9 years. I face paint, twist balloons, and even do a bit of magic! A popular activity is the sing-along! With my youngest audience, I use a lot of puppets!
In music lessons, I like to keep my approach fresh! We do some exercises every time, but sometimes I change them a little to keep them fun. I tailor my lessons specifically for each student and his/her age and needs. In a voice lesson, we will focus on vocal health and technique, singing, reading music, and music theory. If you outgrow the group lessons, please contact me to set up a private lesson! I'm also very good with younger musicians. All lessons are very interactive, but for 4-5 year olds, we keep it extremely fast paced and fun! You will hear your young students singing vocal exercises using animal sounds, for example. I love to share my knowledge and experience with my students, and help each one to get more confidence! My students learn to trust their voice, and also to take risks! Be brave! In the wonderful words of Elsa, "LET IT GO!"
I have several years of nanny experience, and I just love working with children. If you join my young readers' book club, I will have so much fun getting to connect with your young child, and sharing my favorite books! We will discuss these amazing stories and illustrations, and I am sure you won't be able to resist adding them to your collection!
Originally from England, I now live in New Mexico with my beautiful 9 year old daughter, our tortie cat, Daphne, and our toy poodle, Poppea! Poppea is named after my favorite opera role which I sang with West Edge Opera in Berkeley, California. Daphne is named after the exquisite opera by Richard Strauss, which I heard at the Santa Fe Opera several years ago while working as an usher!
